2017-18: Music of the Soul
In its 71st season, Elgin Master Chorale (EMC) explores the powerful connection between music and the human soul. EMC opens its season with Bach’s Magnificat and Ein feste burg (in recognition of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation). In February, EMC celebrates legendary composer Leonard Bernstein by bringing his life and music to the concert stage. A performance of Durufle’s beautiful, ethereal Requiem will close the season. The EMC Children’s Chorus will also be featured on the November and April concerts. Learn more about the Children's Chorus at emcchildrenschorus.org.

The Elgin Master Chorale’s 71st season closes with the beautiful and ethereal Duruflé Requiem. This masterwork of 20th century music uplifts the spirit as it provides a transforming experience for each listener. It is undoubtedly one of the most moving and personal settings of the Requiem mass, having been composed in memory of Duruflé’s own father. The Children’s Chorus will also sing on this program, performing songs celebrating the beauty and power of music.
