The Elgin Youth Choir (EYC) is a vibrant community where young people discover the joy of singing, build lasting friendships, and grow into confident leaders. Through exceptional musical experiences and a welcoming environment, singers develop skills that extend far beyond the stage.
About Us
The Elgin Youth Choir serves young singers from across Elgin and the Fox Valley, providing high-quality choral education in an inclusive and supportive community. Whether a student is singing in a choir for the first time or has years of musical experience, EYC offers opportunities to learn, perform, and thrive.
Our mission goes beyond teaching music. Through collaboration, creativity, discipline, and self-expression, we help young people discover their voices and their potential.
Sing. Explore music, develop vocal skills, and experience the excitement of performance.
Belong. Build friendships and become part of a community that values every singer.
Become. Grow in confidence, leadership, and artistry while developing skills that last a lifetime.
New in 2025-2026, we have a new home!

We’re excited to announce that the Elgin Youth Choir has found a new home at the Elgin Math and Science Academy! This inspiring partnership allows us to better serve young singers across Elgin and the Fox Valley in a space that fosters creativity, learning, and community. We can’t wait to fill these halls with music!
Choirs
The Elgin Youth Choir offers two ensembles designed to meet singers where they are in their musical journey. Placement is based on a brief voicing with Music Director Alexandria (Lexy) Taxon, allowing us to ensure every singer is in the ensemble that best supports their growth and success.
No audition is required to join EYC. Instead, each singer participates in a short, welcoming voicing to determine the most appropriate ensemble placement.
Prelude Choir (Grades 2–8)
The Prelude Choir is designed for beginning singers and those who would benefit from additional support as they build their musical foundation. Through singing games, movement, creative activities, and age-appropriate repertoire, singers develop essential skills while discovering the joy of making music together.
This ensemble emphasizes musical exploration, confidence-building, and play-based learning in a supportive environment where every singer can succeed. Students learn healthy vocal habits, basic music literacy, ensemble skills, and performance etiquette while developing a lifelong love of singing.
Whether a child is brand new to choir or simply needs more time to build confidence, Prelude Choir provides a welcoming place to grow.
Youth Choir (Grades 4–12)
The Youth Choir is designed for singers who are ready for a more advanced choral experience. Members explore a diverse range of repertoire while continuing to develop vocal technique, musicianship, artistry, and ensemble skills.
This ensemble provides increased musical challenges and performance opportunities, encouraging singers to take ownership of their musical growth while working collaboratively with their peers. Youth Choir members serve as musical leaders within the organization and experience the rewards of creating high-quality performances together.
Placement in Youth Choir is determined through the voicing process to ensure singers are prepared for the ensemble's musical expectations.
Meet Mrs. Taxon, EYC Music Director
Born and raised in Hampshire, IL, Lexy’s musical journey began with violin at age five before she found her passion in piano and voice. Inspired by her own piano teacher, she knew by 7th grade she wanted to become a music educator.
A graduate of Millikin University with a degree in Vocal Music Education, Lexy is now pursuing her master’s at Vandercook. She brings years of experience as a choir director, musical theatre director, guest clinician, and private teacher in voice and piano.

Membership Expectations
Membership in the Elgin Youth Choir is a commitment to both personal growth and the success of the ensemble. To provide the best possible experience for all singers, we ask families to support the following expectations:
Attendance
Regular attendance is essential to a singer's musical development and to the success of the choir. Because each member contributes to the ensemble's sound, singers are expected to attend weekly rehearsals and performances whenever possible. Families should communicate any anticipated absences to choir staff in advance.
Tuition and Fees
Tuition and registration fees directly support music, educational resources, performance opportunities, and the overall operation of the choir program. Families are expected to maintain their payment plans or make arrangements with staff if financial assistance is needed. Scholarships and flexible payment options are available to ensure that no singer is turned away due to financial circumstances.
Participation
Singers are expected to come prepared, contribute positively to rehearsals, demonstrate respect for fellow choir members and staff, and engage fully in the musical process. Together, we create a welcoming community where every singer can thrive.
Registration closes on Sept 14 after the first rehearsal. Register below or email us and get more information!
